Western Queens Edition

Western Queens: First patented by the Dutch in 1642, Western Queens begins at the East River opposite Mid-Manhattan and covers over 16,664 acres. The region is on the verge of a renaissance following construction of Citibank’s corporate skyscraper at Long Island City; the International Design Center and the Kaufman Astoria Film Studios. There is also a designated Historic District of beautiful 19th Century townhouses.

Western Queens has the highest concentration of light industry in the Borough, providing thousands of local jobs. This employment has attracted eager young immigrant families thus revitalizing shopping and housing in the older communities and stimulating development. Residential neighborhoods such as Jackson Heights, offer primarily apartment housing of spacious, pre-war construction, such as the picturesque Spanish Garden Apartments in Jackson Heights. Proximity to the Queens Zoo, the Hall of Science and the Queens Museum, as well as direct rail links to Shea Stadium and the National Tennis Stadium in Flushing Meadow Park, make Jackson Heights an attractive neighborhood for growing families.
